Wow! Going into this cluster, I can say I had many feelings of being nervous, anxious and scared. This was only my second semester in the MAT program and first semester in the cluster program. Although, the first day of class really changed my mind. I was very excited for this class and I knew I would learn a lot. Dr. Parker, was an amazing professor with so much background in education, I can only hope to be like her one day. The class was very helpful and I am very happy I decided to take this course. It was very convenient that it was one day a week for four hours. I was not sure how that was going to work out but Dr. Parker kept us on our toes throughout every class! I really enjoyed how Dr. Parker included many different types of activities that we could use in our classroom. As hands-on learner, engaging in these activities gave me a better understanding on how I can be more creative in my future classroom. Dr. Parker also made us become more familiar with other websites that we could utilize in the classroom. My favorite was learning all of the different types of presentation aids we can use. I will never use powerpoint again!
Throughout the semester, I felt that I was always receiving answers to my questions and gaining a better understanding of becoming a teacher. Having a professor with so much experience allowed me to explore many different areas in teaching, not only the courses that were being taught. Before going into this class, I had a fear of assessment. When I was an elementary student I can remember test days and how horrible they were. This course allowed me to explore many different ways to give formative and summative assessments the correct way. This course also gave me a better understanding on clarifying the objectives and standards in the classroom.
I felt that this class always kept me busy. If I had the chance to change a few things I would have the management plan and unit plan due at least a month apart if possible. I did start to feel overwhelmed near the end of the semester. One of my favorite parts was attending Long Elementary. I enjoyed this because it really opened my eyes about what TO DO and what NOT TO DO. I cannot wait to move forward in the masters program! I am really looking forward to becoming a teacher in the near future. This class was by far one of my top favorite classes to take.
